The Weekend Approaches

The weekend is approaching and we are dreaming of buttermilk pancakes and French toast. Mom went to work with Sugar's new owner last Saturday. They were so surprised that Mom brought a buttermilk pancake with her. After all, it was time for a heartworm pill, and the poor gal needed something good to wash that down with.

Here's Sugar's look when she is ignoring the human.

We're hopeful that Ms. Sugar has found her permanent home. She's a lot of fun when she's here, but gets us in trouble. We know we're not supposed to "get on the fence line". But, Ms. Sugar, not so much! She runs around the yard and bounces off the fence. Personally I think she's bouncing off the walls, but Mom says that's rude.
Of course, I earn my title "Sluggo" every day. It's hard to find more ways to look cute while working so hard at keeping my title.

We'll be checking on y'all over the weekend when the selfish human relinquishes the keyboard. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend buttermilk pancakes!

Lola, One Siberian Husky's Dinner

UNBELIEVABLE. This is what we put up with every single day. Mom cooks for Lola every day. Yes, every day. Here is example of her plate. What do we get? Dog Kibble (Witty gets cat kibble). Okay....it is true we get roast chicken, shrimp, salmon, pork, etc. And, we do get breakfast cooked for us on the weekends, but ..... Life at our home is just not fair. We get a couple bites each of food prepp'd for Lola, but she gets a WHOLE PLATE. Oh sure....blame it on her medical condition. We want to see those medical records! We think there is something fishy in Denmark, and it's not in our dinner bowl.

We want to know what y'all get to eat!

Foster anyone?

Here is a handsome fella that is just entering the program. He was shaved and neutered on Tuesday, and is still recovering from the mean human machine. He'll need a new foster or even adopter as soon as possible. If you know anyone looking for a sweet little chow around 3 years of age, please let us know. You know we don't want yet another dog entering our home.

Happy Cat

A big thank you goes out to the wonderful Huffle Mawson, http://hufflemawson.blogspot.com/. He's awarded me, Witty Kitty, the Happy Cat award. My special thoughts are with Huffle for the next two weeks as he endures an extra bossy kitty cat in his own home.

The rules say I have to list six things that make me happy, then pass this award on to six of my friends.

My six happy things are:

1. My husky posse that keeps me safe from all the neighborhood happenings
2. Wild grass plants in my front bed that I lay on and bat around with my paws
3. Humans who open and close the door with each meow I make
4. Neighbors who ooh and ahh over my walking with the dogs
5. Friends like Huffle
6. My toasty warm room inside during a cold winter's night

My six friends who get to share this award are:
TBD.
Ya see between the selfish humans and the sibes, I rarely get to go visiting kitty sites. I will have to find more kitty friends for sure. Everything around here is all about the dogs. Hisssssssss.

Witty Kitty

P.S. A BIGGO pardon to my friend, Huffle. I apparently have a poor command of the he/she part of the English language. Huffle, I am aware you are one hot kitty babe (and not a dude like myself). Many apologies for my mistake!

Siberian husky or bunny fur? You be the judge.

Well, what have we here? Did a bunny explode or is someone shedding? Looks like the humans did the poop patrol, but forgot the fur fragments. Sparta sits watching to see if a bunny dares to approach. Nope she doesn't confess to knowing anything about the destuffed toy. The birds are starting to swoop in to gather more fur. What a fun afternoon exploring in the yard!

Hope woo had some fun too.

Brandy pays us a visit

Cousin Brandy paid us a visit this morning. Auntie Mame adopted Brandy a few months ago, and now we get a new playmate each week. How much fun it is to see Auntie and Brandy. Brandy's a bit on the small size, but she's learning that we're not so scary. Although Brandy still retreats to under the truck or under the furniture from time to time.

Hope y'all are having some great play time too!

Lola

Wheaton Terrier Coming Soon

Look who's coming soon! This poor fella's Dad died, and he is looking for a new home. Some of the rescue humans will be shooting new photos tomorrow. We can't wait to see what he looks like. Mom is frantically seeking a foster or adopter for this fella. More on www.sibevibes.blogspot.com Sunday or Monday.

What we do know is he was placed in boarding yesterday and is playing with all the other dogs his size beautifully. AND he loves all the human contact he's getting. Maybe he's a husky cousin too!

Not a husky

Since we were gone for so long, we thought we would show you one of the reasons we were distracted.

Meet Jenna. Jenna was at the shelter for more than 30 days because EVERYONE was in love with her. Well, you know the humans have a soft spot for us four legged creatures... So, Jenna entered the program. But, guess what....she didn't move in with us. How wonderful! In fact, Jenna became a foster failure when her two foster siblings also fell in love with her.

Now mom tells us that the foster family (now adoptive family) is pregnant. We are pretty darn excited, and so is Jenna. She loves kids! Soon she'll have one of her own.

Enjoy the photos.

I'm still standing

MEOW. It's me Witty Kitty. Mom won't announce how many huskies (and other dogs) have come through the house in the last year in the foster program. She's afraid someone will label her insane. DUH!

Well, no worries. I have continued to train those "non-trainable" huskies. So for all of you who say the huskies have a high prey drive..... I can't argue with that. BUT....I'm still here aren't I?

I hope you enjoy the photos. I have no idea why humans think I am going to pose for the camera. What is wrong with that picture (pun intended).

Signing off (but not out).

You can't see me

Oh yea, right. Like I'm going to interrupt my PI investigative efforts to pose for some stupid human photo. Instead of taking my photo, they could have cleaned the bench! My blue eyes were spying on a squirrel. Hope you had a great weekend.

Still hanging around

Hi. It's Journey here. I know everyone thinks we have disappeared. At least Mom has started helping on the other blog: www.sibevibes.blogspot.com.

We're still here, feeling a bit neglected since the humans insist on continuing rescue work, although it has been less in the last few months.

We'll be coming by to say hello as the humans permit. We hope everyone is doing great.

Rescue Rescue Rescue

Spart Tart here. Have you noticed I have yet to be named a foster failure?
Well, I think I want to leave. Mom slapped a remote collar on me. Now how stupid is that? I sit, down and heel when I want to. Can someone save me? Jefferson is being such a bad example. He has gone from the wild child to the "top of his class" according to the Mommy. That's just garbage.

Now, all of our time keeps being sucked away by others. Mom pulled a new male from Mesquite Friday. He is not doing so well at his foster's....separation anxiety. Mom is threatening to bring him over here. Oh sure, like Jefferson Pagoda and Maxwell Smart aren't enough.

Seriously, Mom is looking for a husky home for this guy so we don't have to move him but once. He is attentive, beautiful, learns incredibly fast, but needs a pack to reassure him.
Here he is, but I don't know what is so special about him.

Keep cool!

Selfish mommy

HELP. We are all still here, but we are so very abused. Thank you for all checking in with Mom to make sure we are breathing. The air in Texas is hot and humid. We are sooooo glad Dad is in the air conditioning biz. Cool breezes inside!

Here we are trying to make the best of the fact that the humans keep bringing in more and more and more dogs. At least some of them do leave. In fact, some don't even get fostered with us (at least that's what the humans say!).

All we know is that sometimes we are having to suffer with Steel cut oatmeal for breakfast instead of Challah french toast. And, the other day Mom gave us something called stew instead of our usual chicken or fish or shrimp. We were polite and cleaned our plates.

We hope Mom will let us have more computer time. Have a great weekend, all

No worries

Meow....
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.... Ha! Mom doesn't believe in censorship so..... Tee Hee. I have taken over and am celebrating that Miss Priss, Matisse has found her furever home.

Uh oh.....gotta run.

Please excuse Wit Kit's ill manners. He was not at all excited about our latest house guest, Matisse. Matisse was really well mannered, and very beautiful. She just was a bit too much of a cat fan, kinda like Khyra. It's me, Spart Tart. Thank Dog the boys are still here for me to play with, but Matisse did find her home last night.

Her humans run and already know all about us sibes. They are super cool, and are already asking for doggie cookie recipes. We're sending them to Wilbur, Kat and Steve's blog. Their parents both work, but Dad comes home for lunch most days. Sounds like she'll get enough togetherness time between naps.

Here's Miss Priss on her last day here.
Witty was glad she left as the new cold front came through. He enjoys the house more in cold weather.

We got our usual French Toast weekend breakfast, but then Mom made us some snickerdoodles from Kat's Kitchen recipes. Yummo, Mom. We went for a nice long stroll and settled in for our nap. While we were napping, Auntie Mame dropped off our weekly chicken delivery. Ohhhhh. It's rough to be a dog supervising all of these kitchen activities.

Let's all go play!

When will this dog parade end?

Meow. What is with this never ending parade of dogs. Here's Matisse watching me through the window. Thank goodness we were having spring in January today, so I was loving the outside. Hrrumph. I'm ready for some fur to fly away!

Weekend

Hello everyone. 'Tis I, Heidi, Lady of Leisure. Witty and I are living in the land of giants these days. It has a few advantages...For instance, Mom got a cookie recipe from Wilbur, Steve and Kat's Mom and baked for us this weekend. Yummo. Proof is in the pics. Although WSK's Mom is makes the cookies look much better than Mom.
We took in another boarder when a foster situation unraveled. Her name is Matisse, and the vet spay her when she was in heat. Now, she thinks our stuffies are pups. Mom is not too pleased with this latest development b/c it means we have to keep Matisse away from us most of the time b/c she's gotten protective. Mom swears this is short lived, but just look at her in a kennel. Mom doesn't require her in the kennel 'cuz she's in her own room, but the silly dog sits and guards the stuffies. Mom says she's a really sweet gal and this will pass. I think she looks a little like Ms. Fluffy Tail (and she has one too). Well, I hope she doesn't mistake me or Witty for one of her pups!

Dad gave Lola a bath this weekend when we had a very warm day. Isn't she pretty even all wet with her fur unkempt? I love my Lola, and so does Max. Maxwell Smart and Jefferson Pagoda are trying hard to become perm members of the family by sticking close to Spart Tart and Lola. Journey isn't even putting up a protest. Witty and I are tired of seeing all these legs! We just know there is a home for these two together. Help us find one soon, please! Dad is getting weak.

Well, that's a recap of our weekend. Hope you had a blast. We got a blast of cold air. No snow, but we're loving the temp.

Texas Twirls,

Heidi, Lady of Leisure

Funny looking dogs

Woof. Journey here. Dad went to his parents' home for a few days and had very strange looking dogs wander through the front yard. Don't the humans look silly chasing them? That'll teach Dad not to bring me with him to keep the yard safe from other creatures!

Oh, and since there was a cynic among us (other than Mom), I have been requested to post another "awesome" photo of the foster boys. Maxwell Smart and Jefferson Pagoda were not happy that their pic was being posted under "funny looking dogs", though. The only thing that separates them is Spart Tart. I'm not sure what's so special about her. And, for the record, she is still listed on hold in Petfinder because I have not approved her for a foster failure.

These humans take forever to get us our food! Someone get them some more coffee please.

Cats

Meow....Roar.....

It's me, Witty Kitty. Mom and Dad escaped the huskies in search of cats yesterday. Here's what they found....

Check out www.priderock.org. It's a wild cat and wolf sanctuary (no tours, but 30 cats and some wolves). The cat feeding bill alone is $1,000/week. Basically it's a couple of humans with one very part time volunteer who took in some cats that others were ready to discard. You know photographers who use cubs and then discard them as they get older... Can we help them out? Mom says if you know deer hunters in the DFW area, they love venison donations (sounds just awful to me). And, we're looking for a volunteer for next year's blogathon to help raise over $1,000 for them. That's only one week of kitty chow over there. Please help us spread the word and donate. Two humans to 30 cats, some wolves and all the stray dogs in the area...these humans are out numbered.

If anyone wants to help repair kitty kennels, make cougar hammocks from old fire hoses, or help rebuild metal roofs, give us a shout. These cats live over 20 years, and these folks are committed to keeping these guys safe and fed for life.

In the meantime, Mom says the kitty kisses are pretty rough, like mine! I'm going back to cat napping myself.

Meow.

Witty Kitty

P.S. You can buy stuff at www.furtheanimals.com and Pride Rock gets 10 percent of your purchase if you select them as your rescue of choice at check out.

What is it?

Mom, Dad and Uncle Sean have been working on this. Well, mostly Dad and Uncle Sean. What is it? Note the Texas Star leaded glass door. Mom refers to it as The Hut. It's not finished, but Dad put in an a/c and heater this weekend before the temperature got just right (below 30). It even has tile floors and moulding.

Lana (a foster dog) stayed in it this weekend while her foster family went out of town. She doesn't like other dogs, but she sure licks her chops around Witty.

I'm exhausted thinking of the possibilities. We were hoping it was a playhouse like Steve and Kat have, but Mom assures us it is not. We do love running circles around it! Let us know what you think it is.

I hope y'all are getting some of this wonderful cold weather. Of course we don't have any snow, except in my dreams.....zzzzzzzzzzz.....
